Influenza Flu Shots

Please be advised that employees will NOT be eligible to receive the Influenza (Flu shot) at the lodge during the Flu Clinics this year.

We encourage you to book an appointment separately at: https://bookvaccine.alberta.ca/vaccine/s/

Once you have received your flu record, please provide a copy to your manager in case of an outbreak.

Although the Flu shot is not mandatory, employees not vaccinated against ILI may become ineligible to work during a declared relevant ILI outbreak. There is no requirement for the COVID vaccine or others at this time.

Dayforce Fraudulent Websites

Dayforce has advised us that there has been an increase in the number of counterfeit Dayforce websites designed to trick employees into divulging their login information. Some of these sites may appear in search results (e.g., Google) until they are removed.

Please ensure you bookmark the official Dayforce URL: https://www.dayforcehcm.com

Here is an example showing counterfeit websites

National Payroll Week 2025: The Importance of Payroll Professionals

As Canada observes National Payroll Week from September 15 to 19, 2025, the spotlight is on the professionals who ensure that millions of Canadians receive their paychecks accurately and on time. This week-long celebration underscores the critical role of payroll in the nation's economy and workforce.

Payroll professionals ensure compliance with ever-evolving regulations, handle wage calculations, and administer benefits and remittances. According to the National Payroll Institute, payroll teams manage over $1 trillion annually in wages, benefits, and remittances, highlighting their pivotal role in the economy.

A recent survey by the National Payroll Institute revealed that 91% of Canadians would consider seeking new employment if their paychecks were consistently inaccurate, emphasizing the trust employees place in payroll professionals.

In June 2025, the average weekly earnings in Canada were $1,302.11, marking a 3.7% increase from the previous year. Regional variations exist, with Alberta reporting the highest average weekly earnings at $1,369.72.

The majority of Canadian employees are paid on a bi-weekly basis, a system that aligns with many employers' payroll cycles. This schedule allows for consistent cash flow management for both employers and employees.

As we celebrate National Payroll Week, it's important to acknowledge the unsung heroes behind every paycheck. Their meticulous work ensures that the wheels of the Canadian economy continue to turn smoothly, supporting both businesses and the workforce.

Back to School – Safely!

With many of us sending the kids back to school, safety both inside and outside the classroom is a top priority. Here are a few reminders to help keep children, families, and our community safe and healthy this school year.

Illness Prevention

  • Handwashing: Encourage children to wash their hands often with soap and water, especially before eating and after using the washroom.
  • Stay Home if Sick: Keep children home if they have a fever, vomiting, or flu-like symptoms to help reduce the spread of illness.
  • Healthy Habits: Remind kids to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow and avoid sharing food or drinks.
  • Sleep & Nutrition: Adequate rest and balanced meals help boost the immune system and improve focus in class.

Traffic & Road Safety

  • Drop-Off & Pick-Up Zones: Use designated school zones and follow staff directions—never stop in crosswalks or bus lanes.
  • Speed Limits: Slow down in school zones and be alert for children crossing unexpectedly.
  • Pedestrian Safety: Teach kids to look both ways before crossing, use crosswalks, and make eye contact with drivers before stepping onto the road.
  • School Buses: Remind children to wait until the bus has come to a complete stop before approaching and always cross at least 10 feet in front of the bus.

Additional Reminders

  • Backpacks: Choose a backpack that fits properly and encourage kids to wear both straps to prevent back or shoulder strain.
  • Emergency Contacts: Ensure your child’s school has up-to-date emergency contact and medical information.
  • Mental Health: Check in with your child about how they’re feeling—back-to-school transitions can be stressful. Encourage open conversations.

Together, we can help make this school year a safe, healthy, and successful one for all students!
