HHF Awarded Land and Funds

Heartland Housing Foundation is pleased to affirm that we have been awarded $8.84 million dollars in support of our 100 Fir Street project in Strathcona County, and land at 101 Street in Fort Saskatchewan, through the Alberta Housing Partnership Program. These investments reflect the province’s recognition of both the urgent need for more affordable housing in our region and Heartland Housing Foundation’s proven ability to deliver these homes sustainably and responsibly.
The $8.84 million toward the Fir Street project—a 104-unit apartment complex—will cover roughly one-third of the project’s total cost. We are actively working to secure the remaining funds through additional grants, low-interest loans, and potential private-sector partnerships. The project is expected to move forward in stages, beginning with the demolition of the existing building on the site in spring 2026, subject to full funding.
The land awarded to Heartland Housing Foundation at 101 Street in Fort Saskatchewan is the site of the former Dr. Turner Lodge, which was rebuilt 10 years ago at its new location on 94th avenue. We aim to see that land used for medium-density multi-family housing. Planning for this future project is still in its early phases, with zoning discussions with the City of Fort Saskatchewan expected to begin in 2026.
We sincerely thank the Alberta Housing Partnership Program—funded by the governments of Alberta and Canada—for their support. We look forward to securing the remaining funding needed to bring more affordable housing options to our communities.
